Dissolving The usual used solvents of EC(DS:2.3~2.6) are arene and orgnic acid. The arene are benzene, ethylbene and xylene, use percent: 60~80%. The acid are formic acid aceticacid etc. use percent:20~40%. Ec is slowly added to vessel with orgnic solvent while stirring , until it is completely wet and dissolved.

Important characteristics It dissolves at ordinary temperature in water or in any organic solvents, such as absolute methanol, ethanol, isopropanol propylene glycol and methylence chloride, also in acetone, chloroform, toluene or cellosolves. The solution is very clear and transparent. HPC is a highly thermoplastice substance and shows an excellent film forming property. The film obtained is very tough. Ash content is exceedingly low, so that the product has excellent binding property, stabilizing property for viscosity-increasing emulsions and in dispersibility. HPC shows no medicinal action by itself, has no toxlcity and is physiologically harmless. HPC is chemically inert, so that it hardly reacts with other reagents. The addition of antifungous agents is not necessary when HPC is used. Equilibrium moisture content of H-HPC is low.
Process for dissolving H-HPC Dissolving in water HPC is introduced little into water being stirred vigorously, dissolving is difficult if all the amount is added at once. 20% to 30% of a prescrided amount of water is heated to a temperature above 60°C and HPC is slowly introduced under the remaining 80% to 70% water is added, by this process, quick dissolving is realized. Dissolving in organic solvents HPC is slowly introduced into the organic solvent under sufficient stirring, dissolving is difficult if all the amount is added too quickly.
Main uses of H-HPC 1. Use as binders: in the pharmaceutical field, as a binder for tablets, granules and fine grains or as the pase of ointments. It is used in an amount of 1% to 5% by weight of the medicine. 2. as film-coating agents; HPC has an excellent film-forming property. The film obtained in tough and flexible and has a noticeably good compatility with plasticizers, the film-forming property coating agents, maybe further impoved by using together with other moisture-proy. HPC is used as dispersing agent for PVC, plasticizer absorbing property is improved, so that particles of uniform size are obtained. Compatibility with plasticizers, extrusion property is improved. Formation of so called ?fish-eyes? is inhibited. It is used as a viscosity-increasing agent for pyinting inks, cosmetics, paint removers, dry cells etc, and as binder for ceramics. HPC is used as gelation agnts for water and alcohols, especially for solidifying aocoholic solutions of perfumes to obtain solid perfumes having a delivery-retarding effect. HPC is further used for fiber-treating agents, mortar and ancrete mixing agents and for paper coating agents.

Equilibribrum moistrue content (at 23°C)6% at 50% rh, and 29% at 84% rh It dissolves in both cold and hot water, but doesn?t dissolve in many organic solvents in ordinary condition. The viscosity changes very small when PH valueis around 2~12, but it reduces when PH value exceeds this range. The surface-treated HEC can dissolve only when PH value is modified to basicity.
Usage 1. aqueous emulsion coating HEC is used in the poly of viny acetate emulsion, in order to improve the polysystem?s stability in broad PH value range. In making product, it makes dditives smoothly distribute stabilize and thicken. It is also used as distributing agent for styrene, acrylic ester and acrylonitrile suspended polymer. 2. In a vessel, Disperse MC and prepare a hot water slurry in the same way as described in method (1), add the remaining amount of cold water to the hot slurry while stirring, cool the resultant mixture.
